§ Mr. Charles Clarke[holding answer 12 July 1999]: There is no obligation on schools to notify my Department or the Health and Safety Executive when pupils suffer serious injury or death on school visits abroad. The Department therefore does not collect the comprehensive data requested, although we are of course aware of a number of serious incidents of the type described.
