§ Ms QuinWe endorse the declaration of 29 June by the EU Presidency, which reflected member states' opposition to capital punishment as a matter of principle, irrespective of the defendant and the offence of which he is convicted. I raised our opposition to capital punishment with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 7 June, and will do so again during my visit to Turkey this month.
