HC Deb 12 July 1999 vol 335 cc68-9W
23. Mr. Stringer

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with the Secretary of State for Health on people with severe personality disorders; and if he will make a statement. [89233]

Mr. Straw

My statement to the House on 15 February 1999,Official Report, columns 601–03, set out our proposals to introduce powers of indeterminate detention for dangerously severely personality disorder individuals. The development of this policy has required joint working at all levels between the Home Office and the Department of Health-including extensive discussions between my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and myself.

I am pleased to announce, on behalf of both myself and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health, that we will publish the consultation paper on the management of dangerous severely personality disordered individuals on 19 July.
