HC Deb 12 July 1999 vol 335 c18W
Mr. Brake

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list the principal councils which have submitted a report to him under the Road Traffic Reduction Act 1997; if he will list(a) the reductions in the levels of local road traffic and (b) the reduction in the rate of growth in the levels of such traffic contained in these reports; and what assessment of the road traffic reduction potential described in these reports he has made. [90952]

Ms Glenda Jackson

Statutory reports under the provisions of the Road Traffic Reduction Act 1997 are to be submitted—other than those produced by London Boroughs—in July 2000, as part of the first round of full local transport plans (LTPs). In London, the statutory reports will be linked with the submission of local implementation plans by the Boroughs, taking account of the Mayor's transport strategy. Authorities should also be submitting non-statutory 'interim' road traffic reduction reports at the end of July 1999, as part of their provisional LTPs—or as part of interim transport plans (ITPs) in the case of London Boroughs.
