§ Ms Glenda Jackson[holding answer 28 June 1999]: I assume my hon. Friend is referring to designated parking places near junctions. The Highway Code makes it clear in Rule 217 that motorists should not park within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. It is entirely a matter for the local authority 9W concerned to decide in the circumstances of each case whether it is safe to designate a parking space within 10 metres of a junction.
