Mr. Key

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if the sum of £100 million set aside from the proceeds of the sale of the married quarters estate to Annington Homes Ltd. in 1996 for the refurbishment and upgrading of married quarters remains outside and additional to the Defence budget. [90626]

Mr. Spellar

The £100 million additional funding derived from the proceeds of the married quarters estate to Annington Homes Ltd. in 1996 was added to the Defence Programme at the time of the sale. This funding is ringfenced and on current expenditure plans is expected to have been fully utilised by FY 2002–03.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much of the £100 million earmarked from the sale of the married quarters estate has been(a) spent and (b) committed to be spent on upgrading and refurbishment of married quarters in each year from 1996 to 2002 inclusive. [90630]
