HC Deb 12 July 1999 vol 335 cc37-8W
Sir John Stanley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what review he is conducting of the war pension entitlements of Gurkha soldiers following the death of Sergeant Balaram Rai in Kosovo; when he expects to complete his review; and if he will make a statement. [89897]

Mr. Doug Henderson

[holding answer 6 July 1999]: As I announced on 1 July 1999, Official Report, column 471, I have set up a group to examine Gurkha pensions and gratuities. I will chair the group which will take into account all aspects of Gurkha pensions and gratuities within the context of the Tri-Partite Agreement between Nepal, India and the UK. I expect the work to be completed by the end of the year.
