HC Deb 12 July 1999 vol 335 c76W
Mr. Lidington

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what his reasons were for deciding that summaries of court orders should not be endorsed on children's passports. [90516]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

Where children hold passports, a court can require the surrender of a passport and so the endorsement of a court order may not be necessary.

However, there has not been a decision that summaries of court orders should not be endorsed on children's passports. This issue has been considered by the Parent/Carer Child Abduction Co-ordinating Group, which is an inter-departmental group of officials, together with Re-unite. The Group will be looking at the effectiveness of introducing endorsements of the passports of children at risk of abduction.
