HC Deb 05 July 1999 vol 334 cc405-7W
Mr. Laurence Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will rank each local education authority according to the value of its budget for strategic management in 1999–2000 as a percentage of that for management and administration in 1998–99; and if he will show those percentages and values distinguishing the authorities with grant-maintained schools in 1998–99. [89740]

Ms Estelle Morris

Direct comparison cannot be drawn between local authorities' estimated expenditure on management and administration for 1998–99 and their estimated expenditure on strategic management for 1999–2000 in view of the very different definitions set down in regulations. Figures extracted from the statements for 1998–99 prepared under section 122 of the Education Act 1996 and for 1999–2000 prepared under section 52 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 are provided in the following table.
