HC Deb 27 January 1999 vol 324 c243W
Mr. Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many people had a bone marrow transplant in the UK in the last 12 months for which figures are available. [67107]

Mr. Hutton

Provisional hospital episode statistic figures for National Health Service trusts in England show that there were 695 finished consultant episodes with a primary operation of autograft or allograft bone marrow operations in the financial year 1997–98.

Questions relating to residents who had bone marrow operations in NHS hospitals in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland are matters for my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland, for Wales and for Northern Ireland respectively.
