Letter from Bob McIntosh to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 13 January 1999: The Secretary of State for Scotland has asked me to reply to your Question about the number of trees that have been planted in England and Wales, on Forestry Commission land, in each of the last three years. We do publish in our Annual Reports this information on an area basis. I have, therefore, set out on the attached sheet the area of land planted, both new planting and restocking, for each of the last 3 years. I have added a column showing the number of trees planted using an appropriate multiplier. I hope this gives the information you require.

Mr. McLeish
