HC Deb 26 February 1999 vol 326 c470W
Valerie Davey

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the cost of escorting prisoners in the Simon de Danser case can be recovered from HM Customs and Excise by the Avon and Somerset Police on the same basis as additional costs incurred by the Ministry of Defence have been recovered. [72285]

Dawn Primarolo

No. The arrangement for escorting the prisoners to and from court in the Simon de Danser case was made by the police who are responsible for the costs. The Ministry of Defence costs were incurred during the investigation phase of this case and their arrangement with HM Customs and Excise is for cost recovery.
