To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many Royal Navy personnel have been killed in aircraft accidents in each of the last five years. [72933]

Six Royal Navy personnel have been killed in aircraft accidents in the last six years. The details are1994=1. A Lieutenant in an off-duty private aircraft accident in Cornwall. 1995=2. A Lieutenant and Sub-Lieutenant in an on-duty accident in a RN Gazelle helicopter in the Wye Valley on the Welsh border. 1996=2. A Lt. Commander and a Chief Petty Officer (Air Engineering Artificer) in an on-duty Sea Harrier accident in Somerset. 1997=None. 1998=1. A Lieutenant in an on-duty RN Lynx helicopter accident in the Singapore Straits.

No RN personnel have been killed in 1999 in aircraft accidents.
