HC Deb 25 February 1999 vol 326 c382W
Mr. Soames

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement on the effects of the 1999–2000 revenue support grant on the provision of education services in West Sussex. [73129]

Ms Estelle Morris

The revenue support grant settlement for 1999–2000 for West Sussex includes an underlying increase of £15.5 million or 6.1 per cent. in the education standard spending assessment, after allowing for local authority changes of function. This is sufficient to meet the pressures faced by education services in West Sussex if, as my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has urged it to do, the County Council uses all of the cash increase in the education SSA to support education, especially schools.

Mr. Soames

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will make a statement on the provision of capital funding for schools in West Sussex in 1999–2000. [73130]

Ms Estelle Morris

An allocation of £3,329,969 was announced through the Annual Capital Guideline on 16 December 1998.

Announcements on the Class Size and New Deal for Schools allocations for 1999–2000 will be made shortly.
