§ Clare ShortWe are supporting the preparation of a programme to develop the capacity of civil society in East Timor. Particular care is being taken by the design team to address gender issues. We are also supporting the Water and Sanitation Programme of the International Committee of the Red Cross in East Timor. All quality humanitarian and development projects must take account of the gender dimension. £300,000 has been made available in the current financial year.
DFID are watching closely the political developments in East Timor and is considering what further assistance we can provide to the East Timorese people.
