§ Mr. Peter BradleyTo ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the average connection charge levied on domestic consumers by electricity suppliers. [72541]
§ Mr. BattleMost of the public electricity suppliers charge in the region of £200 to £400 for a standard domestic connection. In all cases, charges will be made according to the degree of difficulty involved in the connection and this can make the cost considerably more. Some allowance may be made for future revenue received by the company as a result of a connection.
In all cases where customers feel that the costs involved are not reasonable those costs can be referred to the Director General of Electricity Supply for determination.
