HC Deb 22 February 1999 vol 326 c51W
Mr. Pike

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what proposals the Government have made to encourage those on low incomes to visit museums and art galleries. [70787]

Mr. Alan Howarth

All charging Museums and Galleries funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport offer concessions for those on low incomes.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State announced in December that funds have been allocated to allow free entry for children to currently charging national museums in England from April this year and for pensioners next year. This will allow those people on low incomes hitherto deterred by entrance charges to visit. We wish to broaden access further in 2001.
