HC Deb 22 February 1999 vol 326 c19W
Mr. Field

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many Jobfinder grants have been paid in each year since the introduction of the scheme. [72184]

Mr. Andrew Smith

Responsibility for the subject of this question has been delegated to the Employment Service agency under its Chief Executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Leigh Lewis to Mr. Frank Field, dated 22 February 1999: As the Employment Service is an Executive Agency, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment has asked me to reply to your question about the number of Jobfinder Grants that have been paid in each year since the introduction of the scheme. This is something which falls within the responsibilities delegated to me as Chief Executive of the Agency. The number of Jobfinder's Grants paid nationally in each year since the introduction of the scheme is as follows:

Year Number of Grants
1994–1995 pilot 4,708
1995–1996 12,383
1996–1997 17,300
1997–1998 15,820
1998-Jan 99 (10 months) 8,281

I hope this is helpful.
