HC Deb 22 February 1999 vol 326 c23W
19. Mr. Heppell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many British service personnel are currently involved in helping to patrol the no-fly zones in northern and southern Iraq. [70509]

Mr. George Robertson

Just over 2,000 service personnel are currently involved in conducting or supporting operations in the northern and southern no-fly zones. Around half of these are land-based and regularly involved in such duties; the other half are aboard HMS Invincible, whose aircraft are currently participating in the patrolling of the no-fly zones.
