§ Ms Glenda Jackson[holding answer 8 February 1999]In 1997–98 the Vehicle Inspectorate recorded one prosecution of a driver who gave his place of residence as outside the EU, 5,082 prosecutions of drivers who gave their place of residence as inside the EU and one prosecution of a driver whose place of residence was unknown. The Vehicle Inspectorate's records do not include prosecutions by the police or Procurators Fiscal as a result of Vehicle Inspectorate checks.
