To ask the Secretary of State for Health what(a) reviews, (b) task forces and (c) advisory groups have been established by his Department since 1 May 1997; what costs they have incurred to date; and what reports they have published. [71508]

The reviews and taskforces, established since 1 May 1997, which have published their final reports are:

  • Review of the law relating to surrogacy
  • Review of evidence relating to silicon breast implants
  • Review of the breast screening programme in Devon and the implications for the breast screening programme as a whole
  • Strategic review of Health Services in London
  • Review of the latest information available on inequalities in Health
  • Independent review of proposals for the transfer of bulk blood processing and testing from Liverpool to Manchester
  • Review of NHS Charter
  • Ministerial task force on the Government's response to the Children's Safeguards Review.

The reviews and taskforces, established since the 1 May 1997, which have yet to publish reports are:

  • Mental Health Act Review
  • Thoracic Surgical Services Review
  • United Kingdom Transplant Support Service Authority Review
  • Review of general anaesthesia and sedation with dental treatment
  • Review of the wheelchair voucher scheme and the provision of electrical and indoor wheelchairs
  • Eight regional task forces to support the Waiting List Action Team
  • NHS efficiency task force
  • NHS task force on staff involvement.

Information on advisory groups and on the costs incurred by reviews and taskforces could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
