§ Ms JowellThere is a large body of authoritative opinion that the amount of salt in the national diet is unnecessarily high, and we have therefore asked officials in the Department to explore with the food industry the scope for reducing the levels of salt in processed foods. Pending these discussions, we have no plans to require this from manufacturers.
