HC Deb 15 February 1999 vol 325 c438W
Mr. Paul Marsden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will assess the advantages of introducing a national road speed limit of 30 mph through rural villages with the option of 20 mph speed limit in specific villages; and if he will make a statement. [70946]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Government are currently engaged in a fundamental review of speed policy to take account of safety, the economy and the environment. The general issue of speed limits and, particularly, the effective management of speed on rural roads and through villages will be considered within the review.
