Mr. Hoyle

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on the gender balance on the Board of the English National Stadium Development Company. [69350]

Mr. Banks

The current Members of the Board are all male. Members are not appointed by Government; nevertheless we are keen to promote the role of women at all levels within sport, and for the Football Association and the English National Stadium Trust to take this into account in considering future appointments.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport who appointed the Chairman and members of the Board of the English National Stadium Development Company; and on what dates. [69347]

Mr. Banks

The members of the Board of the English National Stadium Development Company are appointed by The Football Association (FA) and the English National Stadium Trust. The FA appoints seven members; the Trust appoints five members. The Chairman is elected by the Board members. Members were formally appointed on 12 January 1999 when the Development Company was constituted as an FA subsidiary.

Members received no remuneration.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport which sports individual members of the Board of the English National Stadium Development Company represent. [69349]

Mr. Banks

Board Members do not represent individual sports. Their primary responsibility is to the English National Stadium Development Company, in accordance with their duties as Director of the Company. The FA nominations have a football background and interest. The Trust nominations have a variety of interests, including in golf, tennis, rugby league and football.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on the auditing arrangements for the expenditure of the Board of the English National Stadium Development Company. [69351]

Mr. Banks

The English National Stadium Development Company is currently appointing professional auditors. In addition, the conditions of Lottery grant include provisions for independent monitoring by consultants appointed by the English Sports Council, a requirement for the Development Company to provide full details of the way it spends its money, the right for the English Sports Council to audit the Development Company at any time and the right for the National Audit Office to review Development Company accounts and records.
