To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many self-employed persons had earnings of(a) less than £9,000, (b) £9,000 to £12,000,(c) £12,000 to £15,000, (d) £15,000 to £18,000 and (e) over £18,000, in the last year for which figures are available. [70431]

Notes:

  1. 1. Estimates are subject to sampling error and to variability in non response.
  2. 2. The earnings of a person who was self employed in a job/business were calculated from respondents' answers to questions on either their monthly withdrawals from bank/building society accounts for non-business purposes, or their own estimate of monthly income from their job/business.
  3. 3. Total earnings are based on the earnings of people who were self-employed in their main job, plus earnings that they might have had from any second or third jobs in which they could have been either self-employed or employees.
  4. 4. Data on the number of self-employed persons are rounded to the nearest ten thousand.
