HC Deb 11 February 1999 vol 325 c420W
Mr. Paice

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the European Commission's criteria for the lifting of the export ban on British beef require dedicated abattoirs or dedicated slaughter and cutting lines within larger abattoirs. [70632]

Mr. Rooker

The Date Based Export Scheme requires that eligible animals are slaughtered, and their meat and products handled subsequent to slaughter, in plants which handle only export eligible cattle and beef, or other species and their meat. Abattoirs will be able to slaughter pigs or sheep but will not be able to slaughter cattle which are not eligible for export.
