HC Deb 03 February 1999 vol 324 c654W
Ann Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the private companies that ship Disposal Sales Agency equipment overseas. [68199]

Mr. Spellar

The Disposal Sales Agency does not employ private companies to ship equipment abroad. All sales are based on the "as and where lying" principle, which puts the responsibility on the buyer for collection from the location of disposal.

Private companies may subsequently export the equipment under licence but, in doing so, make their own arrangements for shipping.

Ann Clwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if the Disposal Sales Agency uses MOD airfields to export goods. [68193]

Mr. Spellar

No. The DSA offer surplus military equipment to the home and overseas market on an "as and where lying" basis and the responsibility for collection from MOD premises is with the buyer.
