HC Deb 01 February 1999 vol 324 c487W
Mr. Levitt

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what provision his Department has made for the funding of early years provision in the private and voluntary sectors for 4-year-olds with special educational needs. [68323]

Ms Hodge

Local Education Authorities have a duty to arrange the provision specified in a child's statement of special educational needs. They also have the power to supply goods and services to providers of early years education in the private and voluntary sectors to help support 4-year-olds who have special educational needs but who do not have statements. The cost of providing additional support is reflected in each Local Education Authority's SSA allocation.
