§ Mr. BeithTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what powers included in the Criminal Justice (Terrorism and Conspiracy) Act 1998 have been used; on how many occasions; and if he will make a statement. [67922]
§ Mr. StrawRecords indicate that, as of today's date, no cases have come to court in the United Kingdom involving the use of the powers in sections 1–4 of the Criminal Justice (Terrorism and Conspiracy) Act 1998 (concerning proscribed and specified organisations). However, investigations continue and use of the powers is of course, available for the future. As to sections 5–7 of the Act (conspiracy to commit offences outside the United Kingdom), information on their use is not collected centrally, but it is expected that data on convictions will begin to become available in Spring 1999.
