To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what plans he has to assess the safety of gas cookers; and if he will make a statement. [101162]

The safety of new and second-hand gas cookers is controlled by the Gas Appliances (Safety) Regulations 1995 and the Gas Cooking Appliances (Safety) Regulations 1989.

I have no plans to undertake any assessment at this time.
