To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) how many people received industrial injuries disablement benefit in(a) 1997, (b) 1998 and (c) 1999; and what was the total cost of industrial injuries disablement benefit in each of those years; [102305]

(2) how many claims for industrial injuries disablement benefit were paid in respect of stress-related disablement in (a) 1997, (b) 1998 and (c) 1999 to date. [102306]

Stress related disorders are not a prescribed disease for the purposes of Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit. Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit can be paid in relation to mental disorders only where an industrial accident has been identified as the cause of the disablement.
