HC Deb 20 December 1999 vol 341 c374W
Mr. Jim Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on when the Glasgow Airport Immigration Service will be re-opened to the public. [102851]

Mrs. Roche

The core business of the Immigration Service at Glasgow Airport is coverage of the arrivals controls by immigration officers and this is operating normally.

The Public Enquiry Office (PEO) is a discrete section which is staffed by general and administrative grades and deals mainly with people subject to immigration control who are already in the country and require extensions of stay. This facility has been closed since 22 November 1999 because of a staffing shortfall. As soon as this shortfall is remedied, the office will re-open. No firm date can be given but the local manager hopes this will be very early in the new year.
