HL Deb 16 December 1999 vol 608 c48WA
Lord Judd

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they accept or reject the analysis in the Observer, including the material published on 25 November, of why the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade was bombed in May; and what are the implications, if any, for bilateral relations with China, and for the integrated command structure of NATO. [HL263]

Baroness Scotland of Asthal

We have made clear on a number of occasions our view that the bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade on 7 May was a tragic accident. That remains our view. The circumstances which led to the accidental bombing were considered in detail within NATO at the time. We apologised to the Chinese Government, with whom our bilateral relations have been restored.
