To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the average number of hours of purposeful activity by each prisoner in each week in each Prison Service establishment and in total in(a) 1999 to date, (b) 1998, (c) 1997 and (d) 1992; and if he will make a statement. [102659]

The average weekly number of purposeful activity hours per prisoner for each establishment and in total for the financial years in question are given in the table.

The table excludes establishments where data for the complete period are not available.
