Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what in(a) 1997–98, (b) 1998–99, (c) 1999–2000 and (d) as planned for 2000–01, was the (i) cash change, (ii) real terms change and (iii) real terms change from the previous year in each case after taking into account the cost of police pensions, in each case, for each police force and in total; and if he will make a statement. The information in respect of 1997–98, 1998–99 and 1999–2000, which has been compiled from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy's Police Statistics, is set out in the tables. Information in respect of 2000–01 is not yet available as police authorities have not yet set their budgets for that year.
