§ Ms Glenda Jackson[holding answer 21 April 1999]The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) monitors and enforces compliance with the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and its relevant statutory provisions to ensure that safety standards on the railway are maintained and improved where necessary. The HSE has regular meetings with train operators and infrastructure controllers to ensure the safety of passengers travelling by train.
