HC Deb 21 April 1999 vol 329 c594W
Mr. Baker

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food which of his responsibilities in respect of genetically modified organisms will be devolved to(a) the Scottish Parliament and (b) the National Assembly for Wales. [81460]

Mr. Rooker

[holding answer 20 April 1999]: Food and environmental safety will be devolved policy areas. However, all activities involving genetically modified organisms are governed by European legislation, and, in order to promote a coherent UK framework for handling these matters, administrative concordats are being developed between the relevant Whitehall Departments and the devolved executives.
