The Government are committed to building a fairer society in which everyone has the opportunity to fulfil their potential and enjoy the benefits of high and stable levels of economic growth. The Working Families Tax Credit, the 10p tax rate, increased support for children and changes to the National Insurance system, among others, will increase the fairness of the tax system and encourage work incentives.

The Government's strategy for tackling poverty and social exclusion, which will be set out in detail in a report later this year, is based around investment in prevention, work as the best way out of poverty, help for those who cannot work, and regeneration of the poorest communities.
