HC Deb 29 October 1998 vol 318 c254W
Ms Blears

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what research he has evaluated on the role of low-emissivity glass in helping to reduce energy consumption in buildings. [55081]

Mr. Meale

The Department, through the Partners in Technology programme, has sponsored research into the thermal performance of glazing systems. This work has confirmed that low-emissivity glazing, used in conjunction with high performance framing systems, provides the potential for significant energy savings. The Department also monitors research carried out by other bodies including manufacturers, trade associations and universities.

The Department promotes the use of low-emissivity double glazing under the Energy Efficiency Best Practice programme.
