HL Deb 28 October 1998 vol 593 cc217-8WA
Baroness Mallalieu

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish good practice advice for local authorities and the police on managing unauthorised camping. [HL3623]

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (Lord Whitty)

The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions and the Home Office have worked together to produce joint good practice guidance for local authorities and the police on managing unauthorised camping, based on research carried out by the University of Birmingham. My honourable friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, Mr. Nick Raynsford will be launching the guidance, and the associated research report on 29 October at a conference organised by the National Association of Gypsy and Traveller Officers in Coventry.

Copies of the good practice guidance and the report will be placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
