§ Clare ShortApproximately 30 per cent. of the Department for International Development budget will be paid to the European Union in the current financial year. In 1996–97, the latest year for which an exact figure is available, the percentage was 28.64 percent. As the hon. Gentleman will be aware these commitments arise largely from the agreement reached by his right hon. Friend the Member for Huntingdon (Mr. Major) at the Edinburgh Summit in 1992.
