To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the launch of the Scottish Compact. [56679]

The Scottish Compact sets out the principles underpinning the relationship between Government and the voluntary sector in Scotland. Command Paper No. 4083 will be laid before the House on Friday 23 October.

The publication of the Scottish Compact (which will be complemented by sister Compacts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) meets another of the Government's pre-election commitments. It will help cement a closer partnership between the Government and the voluntary sector in areas of common concern for the benefit of society as a whole.
