Mr. Jenkins

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what was the average size of A-level classes in(a) secondary schools and (b) further education colleges in (i) the West Midlands and (ii) Staffordshire in each of the last five years. [46304]

Dr. Howells

The average sizes of classes of pupils aged 16 and over taught by one teacher in maintained secondary schools in the West Midlands and Staffordshire Local Education Authority (LEA) area are shown in the table. Information on the size of classes in further education colleges is not collected centrally.
