To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 28 July 1998,Official Report, column 199, if he will list the names of the contractors holding nuclear materials owned by his Department. [54866]

Mr. Spellar

I am withholding the full list of contractors holding MOD owned nuclear material under the terms of Exemption Category 1 of the Code of Practice on Access to Government Information. However, nuclear fissile material is held by the following contractors:

  • British Nuclear Fuels plc.
  • Hunting BRAE Ltd.
  • Rolls Royce & Associates Ltd.
  • Royal Ordnance plc.
  • AEA(T).
