HC Deb 19 October 1998 vol 317 c918W
Mr. Maples

To ask the Prime Minister if he will list the rules governing the use of(a) RAF planes and (b) private charter flights by Ministers; if rules have changed since 1 May 1997; and if departments have to meet the full cost of such use. [55510]

The Prime Minister

The Ministerial Code requires Ministers always to make efficient and cost effective travel arrangements. This principle applies to the use of RAF aircraft and private charter flights. The rules have not changed since 1 May 1997. When Departments charter private aircraft for Ministerial travel they meet the charter costs in full. They also pay for RAF aircraft charges, which are calculated by the hour.
