Mr. Dismore

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the names, qualifications and experience of members of the Gaming Board appointed in the last 12 months; if he will list the(a) vacancies and (b) expected vacancies for the Board; and what arrangements are in place for filling them. Mr. George Howarth

Mr. Robert Lockwood and Mr. Peter Dean were appointed as Gaming Board members from 1 January 1998 and 18 May 1998 respectively, with Mr. Dean becoming Chairman from 1 July 1998.

Mr. Lockwood's background is as a licensing magistrate, Chief Executive of the London Red Cross and former local authority chief executive. Mr. Dean has a legal background, is the Investment Ombudsman and was Deputy Chairman of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.

All five Board posts are currently filled. One is expected to become vacant on 31 December 1998 and another on 31 August 1999. Both have been advertised and will be filled by competition.
