To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on progress in adoption of the EU Auto Oil Programme. [54671]

Mr. Battle

The Directives on passenger car emissions, light commercial vehicle emissions and fuel quality, all of which are part of the EU Auto Oil programme, were agreed and adopted on 17 September 1998 and will be published in theOfficial Journal in due course.

The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions is responsible for implementing these directives in UK law.
