§ Mr. MealeA consultation document "Sustainable Production and Use of Chemicals" was published on 27 July, and the consultation will last until 27 October.
The document seeks views on a range of proposals relating to environmental policies on common industrial and commercial chemicals. It addresses a number of key areas: European legislation on new and existing chemicals; eco-efficiency in the chemicals industry; research needs; streamlining procedures for addressing the risks posed by chemicals; and ways of improving the transparency of the process.
A Seminar was held on 12 October to stimulate responses to the consultation. A copy of the proceedings will be placed in the House Library.
