Mr. Jenkin

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what parking facilities for cycles exist at each office or site for which his Department is responsible and for each agency for which he is responsible. [52666]

[holding answer 28 July 1998]: Full parking facilities for cycles are available for the Department and each Agency as shown in the table.

Dr. Howells

[holding answer 28 July 1998]: The proportion of staff cycling to work is set out in the table. Measures to increase that proportion are being developed in the context of the preparation of the Department's green Transport policy.

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, pursuant to his answer of 27 July 1998,Official Report, column 55, if he will make a statement on the security reasons prohibiting the leaving of bicycles around his Department's offices. [53903]

Mr. Mandelson

The proximity of my Department's offices to the Palace of Westminster and to other sensitive locations requires us to take a number of precautions such as this.
