§ Mr. BoatengMy right hon. Friend announced on 21 July 1998,Official Report, column 915, that the police service in England and Wales will receive an additional £1.24 billion over the next three years from 1999–2000. Our plans allow for police expenditure to increase by 2.65 per cent. in 1999–2000. Funding will be allocated to individual police authorities by means of a needs-based formula next year. We will announce provisional allocations later this week.
